Kinja'd!!!

After the jump in case you don’t want to be sad.

Someone ran over one of our cats tonight. Winston, the one on the right. He was 5, and one of the strangest and best cats I’ve known. I don’t have it in me to say much else, this is the second cat we’ve lost in 6 months or so, but this time was so sudden.

I just don’t understand how someone can run over a cat, not even attempt to stop, and then keep going. A neighbour heard the *thud-thud*, and saw a Range Rover driving away and Winston lying in the road. I hate people.

Hug your pets, you never know when it’s the last time.

I’m so sorry for your loss. This must feel so awful. We lost a cat a couple years ago; we had over a year of knowing it was coming and getting ready for it, and it was still so hard. I can’t imagine how bad this must be.

Thanks. We’ve lost one suddenly before, but I was pretty young. The other couple weren’t a surprise, so you could kinda prepare for it. But it’s still hard. This was a total shock, so I don’t know if it’s more awful, but it’s a different, nauseating kind of awful.

Thanks, and yeah I don’t tend to genuinely wish ill on people, but I hope it does get them back.

We’ve lost two dogs to car accidents, both cases the dog escaped and the driver didn’t attempt to even stop

I lament your loss

I don’t let my cat go out for this reason. I love him too much. Plus, he was born a stray and I coaxed him into liking humans...a few, at least.

Kinja'd!!!

I am saddened for your loss :(

Really sorry to hear that.

It’s how we lost our last cat, Tigger.

Tigger was a tabby cat with white socks and white chin. I called them socks because if you brushed the fur upwards, it was like pulling up his socks.

I don’t know what’s worst because the driver came back and told the family. He said he thought it was a pothole.

I’m really sorry for your loss. Thoughts are with you and family.

I’m so sorry, man. We’ve lost several cats just to “the woods” - one was at 5:00 pm in the middle of June, right near our house. I feel you.

Here’s hoping Range Rover guy is out of warranty, at least. Karma will for sure get him one way or another.

What a gut punch. That really sucks. Poor kitty. Losing a family member is one of the saddest experiences, and I‘m sorry you’re left dealing with it.

Thanks, and man that’s hard, we have friends in the area that live farther from traffic but closer to the woods, and they’ve lost a couple to coyotes.

Thank you, yeah from what the neighbour said, this guy made no attempt to stop, before or after.

Sorry about your dogs, that’s tough.

Damn. Sorry for your loss. I am always afraid my kitty might get hit because he is an indoor outdoor cat and likes to go across the road to the neighbor’s hay shed. He seems to be deathly afraid of moving cars though so I am optimistic he will be okay.

Cats are generally good at knowing when they can cross the street, in my experience at least. We’ve had 7 cats growing up, on a somewhat busy residential street. This is only the second one to be hit, and the only one to be killed by a car. I’m guessing they were driving way faster than he was used to, but who knows, maybe he just messed up this time. No way of knowing since the fucker drove off.
